New Edition Webster
I am awaiting the day when Webster drops the new version of the english language into the form of a dictionary. Words have changed their meaning as I have gotten older. Just a few examples of what I am talking about.....Weed.
young...the "bad" plant that grew, that might be pretty but would kill the "good" plants
older.....that marijuana that the "bad" crowd smoked
Window.
young...the square or rectangle glass thing you look out
older.....the computer thing that made Bill Gates billions
Dog.
young...my canine friend
older.....my human friend
Bra.
young...the clothing that "held" women
older.....again, a human term of endearment
Disc.
young...one of the bones in our backs, necks, etc...
older.....something to keep my music, movie, etc... on
Coke.
young...the carbonated drink that came in the red can
older.....the stuff people snort up their nose
Monopoly.
young...the board game that took foreeeeevvvvver
older.....a business manner in which you dominate one field with no competitors
Jeans.
young...the pants that mom would buy for the new school year
older.....a part of our bodies where things are passed to our children
Whine.
young...the thing i got in trouble for because it was annoying to my mom
older.....the drink that comes from grapes and can make you annoying to others
Pot.
young...what mom was making dinner in
older.....again that marijuana that the "bad" crowd smoked
Menu.
young...the thing you chose your meal from
older.....the thing you chose your files, programs, etc... from
Worm.
young...the slimy long creatures that came out when it rained
older.....the stupid obnoxious virus that takes over the computer and tries to send mass emails
Virus.
young...flu
older.....computer flu
I just wonder with all the computer terms if in a few generations children would even know what a slimy long creature that came out when it rained was called, or if they are so "computerized" that they are more likely at a young age to know that a worm is a computer virus.
