Judgment Part 2

Sorry for taking so long to finish this for anyone who actually reads this blog. The question at hand was when is judgment ok. I have been pondering this question in my own heart. Let me give you a little background. All through my school days I was picked on (as most of us are). I was made fun of for being slightly over weight. I was called names because of the people I hung around. All in all, I was judged without these people even knowing anything genuine about me. Ever since those experiences I have hated the idea of people judging other people. Mainly because when someone judges someone else it is based on your appearance, your friends, your financial situation, etc..... These things are the wrong things to judge someone for. So my point (yes, I am getting to it), is that the bible has some principles on judging.

The favorite (at least from what I have heard) is Matthew 7:1-2 Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. Basically, I think people like this verse alone because it says, "don't look at the things that I am doing wrong, because you aren't supposed to judge me.....neener, neener, neener." But this is not the only verse that is in the bible, nor the only thing about judgment that Jesus spoke. He also mentioned this Matthew 7:3-5 And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, "Let me remove the speck from your eye," and look a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite, First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brothers eye. Notice Jesus states that we will see clearly to remove the speck from our brother's eye, not to ignore it. Finally, I think the most important one John 7:24 Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.

The point....at last. I believe that what is being shown here is that we need to work on the sins we have in our own lives.....then if we see someone doing something wrong according to the bible, tell them and try to help them (not just point the finger), but importantly.....if you cannot judge someone with righteousness, don't do it at all. Because if you judge someone according to their appearance, financial situation, friends, etc......, then you too shall be judged according to those things and not your heart.

No one likes to hear that something they are doing is wrong. But if you see your brother or sister in Christ living in sin (pride, lust, the list goes on and on), isn't it love that makes us want to help them? Shouldn't this "don't judge me" stuff be thrown out as long as the judgment isn't according to appearance?

Anyway, this is what I have gathered in my ponderings. You are welcome to give your opinion (in fact, I encourage it).

Kristy
