Kids and Cars don't mix!!

Jim and I are getting ready to leave for a weekend with my parents in Detroit. We leave tomorrow morning. I can say that I am relieved that the drive will only be 4-5 hours long instead of the 12-13 hour drive it took to get to my parent's house in Arkansas. I remember as a child riding in the car for hours going to our vacation location. I remember things like snuggling up with my pillow and sleeping most of the time, grabbing snacks out of the cooler, and the excitement as we got closer and closer to our destination. I don't remember getting on my parent's nerves (although I am sure that I did at some point), the traffic, or the construction. Now that I am grown and doing the driving I am thankful that my parents withstood all of the bad stuff so that I could experience a different part of America that I had never seen before. Dragging two children across the highways of this country isn't what I would call an easy task, yet it is a wonderful experience. The throwing up, fighting over blankets, yelling in the middle of construction zones, and constant stops for bathroom breaks are all out wayed by the things that you are sharing with your children. I love the look on my girls faces when they see something new for the first time. I love the excitement they have for going over bridges. I love to hear them playing in the back seat (when they are getting along). All in all, I am thankful to God that my husband and I can go on trips like this and share with them a part of this wonderful country that they have not seen before. So have a great weekend all and pray for our trip to be a easy one.
