All That Sparkles And Shines

Like most people, I suppose, there are "things" I would like to have in life. For the most part I don't crave luxury. A good home, a decent car, suitable clothes, but nothing extravagant....with the exception of an in ground pool!

I have everything else. A good family that loves me, and I adore them, and Jesus. These are my treasures.

But, living in today's world these things that sparkle and shine do catch my eye. To put it all into perspective, and to show the things that sparkle and shine to God, I want to tell about an evening I had this summer.

I was lying on my bed with my grandbaby on my arm. Her sweet little body was all curled up against mine. I was looking out at the night sky and watching the tree right outside my window as the breeze moved the leaves around. The night air felt so good. Not to sound sappy, but truly all of my senses were experiencing something wonderful. The smell of the night air....the sweetness of my baby's skin and hair as I nuzzled her. My arm feeling more love than I could hold in a lifetime.

Off in the distance I heard the thunder rolling and could see lightening brightening the sky. (I love summer storms) God's presence was so real.

I realized my little one had fallen asleep. I pulled her even closer and without giving thought to what I was saying, I said, "God, it doesn't get any better than this."

Not one "thing" could have taken the place of the time we were spending together. The dog at the foot of the bed was even at peace. It didn't sparkle or shine....but it was priceless.
