Dobson versus media, You decide.

James Dobson (founder of Focus on the Family) has been criticized for statements made at a speech in Washington D.C. during inauguration week. He was stated as saying that Spongebob was gay. This comment was not made, in truth the comment was that there should be concern about a video using hundreds of lovable cartoon characters including Spongebob, Winnie the Pooh, Barney, Big Bird, etc. to promote tolerance of diversity (and sexual orientation among families). The video will be put out by the "We Are Family Foundation" to over 61,000 schools in March. This video reportly will be used to encourage children to accept diversity. They claim there is not any homosexuality mention in their materials. Apparently their teacher guides include material such as...

1. Suggestions on how to persuade school librarians to highlight books that are "representative of all sexual orientations."

2. Methods to initiate classroom discussion of "homophobia" and "compulsory heterosexuality" (the culturally-conditioned belief that boys should grow up to be attracted to girls, and girls to boys).

3. Instructions on teaching students to construct a "Pyramid of Hate," a diagram illustrating "acts of genocide that have been committed against individuals due to (among other things) their sexual orientation.

4. A section on "appreciating diversity" that encourages kids to consider what might interest them in "other sexual orientations."

You can decide what you want to believe about this material that will be sent out to schools. I would suggest for anyone who has children in a public school that receives the material mentioned, that you get involved with the school about it. The beliefs that you want your children to learn are more important than the "mainstream" beliefs that are being pushed.

On the We Are Family Foundation Website, they have a tolerance pledge, here it is.

Tolerance is a personal decision that comes from a belief that every person is a treasure. I believe that America's diversity is its strength. I also recognize that ignorance, insensitivity and bigotry can turn that diversity into a source of prejudice and discrimination.
To help keep diversity a wellspring of strength and make America a better place for all, I pledge to have respect for people whose abilities, beliefs, culture, race, sexual identity or other characteristics are different from my own.

One last comment, teaching to respect others dispite their diversity, in my opinion, is a good thing, but teaching them that sexual identity "homosexuality" is normal (and christians are ignorant, insensitive, and bigots for believing otherwise) is not.
